I brought my camera and pedometer hiking on the northwest corner of the city last weekend.... Here's a picture of some of Lincoln Park's winding trail, which I took all the way to the edge of the cliff that provides a great view of the west side of the golden gate bridge (you may just be able to just see a couple people in the pic viewing from the cliff). It's a beautiful place, and you can look down and see deathly waves hitting the rocks along most of the path...

Greg Behrendt!

After exploring a while, I found a comedy club just a few blocks north of my apartment... To my surprise, the sign showed that Greg Behrendt was going to be playing on thursday... I bought a ticket pretty immediately, and finally went to the show tonight. Once I got to the club, I got lost finding the bathroom and actually ran into Greg Behrendt by the front door! I shook his hand and we talked for a while... I told him I was from MI, and going to school in LA, and he mentioned some things about north california, where he was raised... I told him I was excited to see his show and that I loved his "uncool CD"... I found my seat, and enjoyed a show with a guy named david, his wife, and his mother... (we shared a table)... we talked a while and David, being from chicago, said he could recommend the best pizzas in town... After talking for a while, he gave me his phone # and told me to call him or his wife for any questions I had about what's best to do in the city... I can't imagine anyone doing that in LA... maybe our neighborhood tho!

hot town... summer in the city

After my first full week in the city, I decided to go exploring in my area... (North Beach) When I got to Grant & Green, I quickly found myself walking into a funeral procession which was headed by a marching band. I guess they don't mind going so slow in the city, when all the cars are crawling too.. I returned later in the week to a bar just up the road from here, called the "Lost and Found" bar... I actually ended up there because there was a crazy woman in my apartment's alley. I parked my car after work and walked home only to find an older woman with sunglasses on (it was night time) screaming into a phone.. the phone receiver had a cord that hung down to her elbow, where it was snipped off, and she looked like she needed dentures badly... Yeah, I had my fill of crazyness right then and there, so I decided to hit up a local bar and enjoy a cold one... I met the bartender, Monica, who was friendly, and two other characters hanging out.. One was a limo driver named Eddie, and the other was an Native American named Perry.. (he called me serpico for the entire night) We got along alright and had a pretty fun tuesday night... then, just as Eddie was showing me some brown spider bites he had gotten in Tahoe (he said you apparently can die from this) a large black dude with a low booming voice stepped in and sat down with us... His name was Monty, and it was his 35th birthday. He had no one to spend his birthday with, so we all started ordering rounds, and the night lasted longer than it probably should have... Work the next day felt even longer though..

After going wine tasting, we hit up the nearby town of St. Helena and enjoyed a screening of "Cinderella Man" at a tiny movie theatre. The town was pretty cute (Amy loves that stuff) and the theatre was really cool, with all the old-style curtains and concessions and stuff. The movie was pretty good too!

Here's Amy playing with some cats at the V. Sattui winery. It was gorgeous, and so was the "adult ho-ho" we split. (which was the size of 6 hostess ho-ho's) We tasted wine at another winery called Peju, and both got bottles of their "Provence" wine, which the guy described as having high "quaffability"... sold!

Stopping off my favorite highway, the "29", Amy and I headed to wine country on her visit this past weekend. She helped me move into my new apartment in Frisco's North Beach neighborhood, where I'll be for the next 3 months... The sign here says to keep out, but I don't think they were talking to me. I am holding my atlas... which rules, and has been everywhere with me. more pics to come!
