Fan be gone. (from work)

Last week we had fan's going away party at dave and busters. It was a
great time, racing cars and shooting zombies. Beers and countless
stories about fun times at work, we gave him a pat on the back for
making work a whole lot more fun. Here he is with chris and kyle
playing the horse breeding and racing game. Perhaps the worst game
I've ever played for two hours straight, I never finished better than
fifth place, and somehow spent 20 bucks.

On the way up!

Here's a view from the gondola going up mount heavenly.

Tahoe!

Here are lidia and rowan at the cabin. Rowan is eating beef jerky
dipped in costco spicy guacamole. Over the weekend, We feasted like
kings on nikkis chicken tacos, tasty snacks, and breakfast goodies..

The big vinny

12.99 feeds four at round table pizza in the form of the big vinny
pizza. Where things get interesting is the fact that our bowling team
is undefeated after inhaling this saucy heart attack special. After
realizing this magical trend, we ate separately last week and only won
1 of the 3 games. Not so bad, but I'm Tuesday can't come any faster
for us to redeem ourselves!

Alicia and tim at a Dallas honkeytonk.

We definitely saw some electric slide going on at this place and had a
really fun time just taking in the scenery. It's definitely a
different crowd once you get outside the city of Dallas.

Nam in Texas!

Got to hang out with nam while out in Dallas. Great timing helped us
chill out with my visit happening right after he had just taken an
exam over at UT southwestern. We went wine tasting and ate up some
steaks. It was great catching up with him and everyone all at once.

Dallas!

Got out to Dallas to visit tim an Alicia, and had a great time getting
a feel for the place. Mike and jessica came out and actually helped
convince me to make the trip and I couldn't be happier I went. It was
great hanging out in tim's garage drinking twanged up beers.
(twang.com tells the story of this magical lemon lime salt) it was
like old times hanging with tim, though Dallas is a little different
from where we grew up. I think I had beef or BBQ every day in Dallas,
and I'd do it again! Here's a pic of me at a boot store. Every item
shown is made of dead animal. Nice.

Super mario fan!

We are moving our cubes at work and boxing up our stuff. Fan saw my
angled pile of boxes and we hoisted up a flag and Voilà! It was fan
finishing a level in super mario brothers, jumping for it. Yay!.

Done about town

San francisco has a promotion each year for fixed price meals at over
100 restaurants in the city. Its a great opportunity to check out
expensive 4 and 5 star restaurants for 32$. I've been eating out like
crazy because of DAT (dine about town) through the last couple weeks
of January. To finish off the promotion, Scott (on my bowling team)
and I hit up ruth's chris steakhouse for a filet. Definitely a bang
for buck meal with all the fixins..
We ate at the bar, but had to bolt before they could box up our key
lime pie. On our way to bowling, which is why we had to bolt, I
called up ruth and asked if we could pick up our pie the next day.
I'm sure we surprised them when we actually showed up to claim our
pie. We ate it up at starbucks next door and it was amazing. Notice
the premium steakhouse takeout bag!

Piccino cafe

Found the best mocha in the city right by the train station at piccino
cafe. Look at that mocha swirl!

Jugtown pirates

Saw a pot mobile at the train station.

Lightbox

Scroller guts!

Underneath the display, you can see a SD card input and a VGA out.
Some of the scrollers had "faster" and "slower" buttons to simulate
different speed modem scrolling.

Scroller board

These displays scroll a single ANSI. You can slow it down
interactively to 2400 baud!

ANSI art

This guy asked me what area code I was from. My phone number is still
248-you-wish.

ANSI art gallery

After watching some playoff game action at green's with some cheese
heads, I made my way to 20goto10, an art gallery that shows off retro
computer art on new medium. They had ANSI art BBS ads from the early
nineties shown I canvas, lightboxes, and standalone circuitboard
scrollers.

Stormy in SF

We had some crazy storms in the bay area a couple weeks back. Some
friends were without power for a bit and a lot of trees were destroyed
in my area. Here's a tree just steps away from my apartment, where I
pick up the 22 bus.

Burning Christmas tree on my block!

A few weeks back I was sitting here at maxwell's house of caffiene.
(my local coffee shop) and noticed a burning Xmas tree across the
street. There were a bunch of discarded trees out in the city
streets, and I'd noticed a couple on this block on my way to get
coffee. Before I knew it, everyone in the coffeehouse was staring at
the burning tree as the fire department pulled up in a big red fire
engine. The firemen jumped off and quickly doused the fire, (it was a
tiny waist-high tree) then stood there for a few minutes talking with
their hands on their hips. They probably each had a theory of how the
tree caught fire. You can see the tiny fire in the middle of this pic

New years toast!

Here we are, toasting up 2008 at john and eliza's house.
